This in-home newborn session in West Chester, Ohio was all about welcoming the final piece of the puzzle — baby Alex.

Josie and Mattie were so fun to photograph and so genuinely happy to be big sisters. Not the perform-for-the-camera kind of happy, but the quiet, proud kind — forehead kisses, careful snuggles on the couch, and both of them trying to take a turn holding Alex at the same time.

One of the most meaningful parts of this session for me was seeing how they continue to include Brendan. He was earthside for such a short time, but he’s still present in their home — in photographs on the walls, in conversation, and thoughtfully included in family pictures. I tell families all the time how much it means to me when I walk into their homes and see the photos we made together… and that rings infinitely true here.

These early days with a newborn at home are quiet in some ways and beautifully loud in others. There’s adjustment. There’s chaos. There’s a lot of love layered into every room. And years from now, when Alex is running through the house and he sees his photo with the rest of his siblings on the newborn gallery wall he will know: this is how it started.
